MailTones – Email Alerts and Sounds 01/13/2012 From The iPhone Mom MailTones is an app for those wishing to cut through their email clutter. The app works by allowing you to assign custom sounds to various emails. You can assign for different contacts, subjects and senders. Assign the sound and when an email comes in matching that parameter you’ll receive a push notification on your phone, alerting you with the sound you chose. There are over 60 tones to choose from as well as a “Do Not Disturb” feature that can be automatically set up for evenings. I think using an app like this could be a real time saver as it allows you to quickly identify your important emails.  |

Compass Eye: I’m Sailing Away 12/09/2011 From Gizmodo An augmented reality app that's actually useful is a rare find. Compass Eye produces a real time compass that's overlaid on top of the iPhones camera view. Sailors can set multiple bearings and switch between magnetic north and true north. The app is marketed specifically for sailing, but it can be used for hiking, biking, really anything where you need to set a specific bearing. The app's compass works way better than the iOS default compass and I don't have to wave my iPhone in the air every time I launch the app. The app also features a camera zoom.  |
